THEME OF YOUR WORK : Tale of Two – Pre-Spring 2023

DESCRIPTION OF YOUR WORK : Tale of Two: Pre-Spring 2023 by Frederika is a juxtaposition between inspirational Bishu Reclaimed Wool material from Japan with Hand-drawn Batik (batik tulis) from Indonesia. In the creation of the apron batik motif, Frederika refers back to Sam Pek Eng Tay’s folklore from China back in the Tang Dynasty, which has been a major reference for Batik motifs during Japanese occupation years in Indonesia back in 1942-1945. The Sakura Flowers, Moon and Peacock was sewn on top of the Cloud Parang batik motif, to recreate the tale in a modern way.

THEME OF YOUR WORK : Atulya ( अतुल्य )

DESCRIPTION OF YOUR WORK :Atulya is a Sanskrit word, which means ‘Incredible’.
My design represents a modern lady who is confident with her own look and wants equality in all aspects of her life.
With her own individuality she can define her own world. She is unmatchable and that’s why she is ‘Incredible’.
This world will be a much better place when we don’t discriminate against any individual, despite their color/race/gender.
Design Philosophy : Futuristic collection with structural experimentation in avant-garde philosophy.

DESCRIPTION OF YOUR WORK : As the theme revolves around the wool fabric that originated from Aichi prefecture, the work highlights the woven texture of the fabric and fabric grains. A down to earth look with the combination use of 4 neutral earth shades, further enhanced with raw finishing on the layered hem. The work was sustainably created with a zero waste pattern method and biodegradable fabric (Bishu reclaimed wool).

THEME OF YOUR WORK :Mysterious

DESCRIPTION OF YOUR WORK :Inspire by the fabric, as wool to a trench coat to a more avant garde design.
My design is a double side reversible trench coat and a detachable mesh sleeves top.
It’s inspired by 1900 British menswear. They used darker colors symbolic of mystery, power, elegance, and sophistication.
To pair with dark brown Bishu Reclaimed Wool I added an orange color making the design more feminine and bright and a hint of modern feel.

THEME OF YOUR WORK :Japan’s Fashion Evolution in the 1980s

DESCRIPTION OF YOUR WORK :In the 1980s, Japan evolved from its traditional roots to new age design. We used Bishu wool to represent the traditions of Japan as the foundation of the new generation. The silhouette of our look combines 80s icons, Yohji Yamamoto’s deconstructed, loose fitting suits with Issey Miyake’s famous staircase pleats.

THEME OF YOUR WORK :co: Existence

DESCRIPTION OF YOUR WORK :The existence of dualism is based on two singularities. Their twofold nature becomes fragments of memories that intertwine within one. Layers of aging revolve around their existence like a blanket of memories. Thus, duality can’t exist without two singularities.
